Sort of a random thought, but I’ve noticed when Elmore incorporates marijuana into many of his novels, it just seems to be there, like music, booze or cigarettes. He doesn’t pass moral judgment or use cliches about stoners that we see and hear all the time in the media, but he doesn’t glamorize it either.
Elmore realizes people from all walks of life smoke pot: doctors, cops, criminals, teachers, housewives, even some priests.
And next time I twist one up, I’m going to call it a yobie. Thanks Fr. Dunn!
My favorite pot-related passage is from The Switch, when Louis gets Mickey stoned for the first time. Funny stuff.
