CITY PRIMEVAL and THE HUNTED had screenplays. Any stories on those, Gregg?
Elmore wrote the screenplay for City Primeval, called Hang Tough (original book title). It’s been sitting around the studio for 27 years since the project went into turnaround. The Hunted script, written by Elmore has been sitting around even longer.
I worked with Sam Peckinpah on locations for Hang Tough in Detroit, but there was a writer’s strike in 1981 and the project was shelved. The Hunted was Elmore’s only foray into production with a partner, Tom Brank. They called their company, Hat Trick Productions. and Brank tried to raise money locally, but to no avail. Robert Mitchum was interested at one time.

Gregg, it was a joke.
In England if you change your name legally (to Steven Tyler for example), you change it by deed poll.
What’s the expression used in the US?

I think we should give a pretty good ‘slap on the back’ to John, as he initiated this thread and got so many people involved.
Great to see so many people interested in meeting up, doing the tour, and of course, seeing Mr. L.

It takes place in August, too late for our Tour of Detroit, but has anyone ever seen the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise?

Yes. Would that be the one that Elmore avoids like the plague? Think you better treat that as a whole separate trip.

Yes, I guess it would be quite a bit different for people who live in Detroit.

Notice the post on Elmore Leonard’s Arizona. I’m doing similar maps of Detroit for a virtual tour.
Here is how Detroit breaks down:
Downtown Detroit
Eastpointe to Algonac
Hamtramck/Highland Park/Eight Mile Corridor
Detroit - West Side
Detroit - East Side
Woodward Ave. North
If anybody is interested in pitching in, we could create a series of Detroit Tour Maps using Google Maps.

I live 2.2 miles from one of the points on the Arizona map. Just what is it that transpired at the corner of 7th Avenue and Jackson in Phoenix? It is about 8 blocks from Alice Cooper’s bar for whatever that is worth. And 3 or 4 blocks from the Madison Street Jail. Probably just the conceptual center of town, although off by about a half mile.

You and Alice, moving from Detroit to Arizona.
Alice Cooper wrote a book a couple years ago about his love of golf and the first chapter is all about growing up on the east side of Detroit in the 60’s.
Yes, a Google map for points of interest in Detroit would be great.

John will probably come to Detroit and we’ll drive around. I have no real incentive to organize a tour if nobody is interested. Elmore will now be appearing in Birmingham in May. The book is out May 12. If anybody wanted to tour and see Elmore that would be the ideal time. Hey, I got plenty to do. If anybody is serious about this, lets see it.

Oh, I’ll definitely be there. What about you, Son (Barry) and WellWellWell (Kasey), you guys want to drive from Toronto with me? Anybody else want to drive from Toronto?

If there’s no proper tour, I can’t say I’ll be there. I would love to fly from here to Toronto, meet up with John and any other guys along, Son Slater etc, and drive to Detroit. But, if there’s no tour, 6,585 miles is a long way to travel for just a couple of beers with the guys.
The more of us involved, the greater chance of Gregg being willing to do a tour?

I’d need a meeting place in Motown and a place to crash (hotel, the Y, Gregg’s place ;-D). Driving in from Syracuse. Would consider meeting the others in Toronto for the trip down if that’s easier. We still don’t need passports, I understand. Soon though.
