Elmore’s writing a book?

That’s what you do if you are Elmore Leonard.

ROAD DOGS went to the publishers this summer.  Can this be another book?

Yes.

When does the non-fiction AARP article get published?

It’s not totally set, but probably around June 1.

To echo Robb’s words… what’s this new book? any info? just a snippet of info, maybe?

At this stage, I am not going to reveal anything.  It’s too early.  I will tell you that he actually started with one idea, wrote half a chapter and put it aside.  He is in the process of beginning again with a totally new idea.  We have been working intensely on the research and it will be a quite story, at least in terms of setting.  When things settle down a bit, I will see if he wants to tell you a little about it, but not today.

I figured he’d be halfway thru his next book by now.
Glad to hear he’s been able to relax a little since finishing Road Dogs.
Still, travelling all over the world, winning awards can take a lot out of a guy.

Nice to hear he’s laying the groundwork for the next one.
Yeah, chopping and changing must be a part of the world that EL occupies.
Let’s just hope that by the time we all get to see Road Dogs, EL is well on the road.
The man is tireless!
83 and still knocking them out. Not just knocking out crap either, as some known authors seem to do. Not just relying on his name to get a book published. Some authors could publish thier shopping list and no-one would mind.
I would love to ask him exactly what drives him, his ambtion, this far into his career.
He must just love what he does, I guess.

The day keeps getting better: Elmore Leonard working on a new novel is music to the ear; causing the heart to soar like an eagle.

Yeah, Elmore’s mentioned Djibouti a lot during his Road Dogs’ promotion. Sounds like another gem.

I had to chuckle when I saw EL on Charlie Rose last spring and he seemed to talk more about Djibouti than Road Dogs. Totally shrugged off the notion that you must do nothing but promote, promote, promote! your newest product in interviews.

Not to say of course that he was slighting Road Dogs; he just seemed very excited about what he was writing at the moment.

EL told a Crain’s Detroit Business reporter that he expects it to be published in spring 2010, according to a blog post today on that publication’s site.
