Not yet; been away for a bit, but I’ll get on it soon.

I have read it twice.

It is like putting on a pair old jeans.

Is is so nice having Jack back.

There are at least a dozen touchstones.

Being a LA guy, I love the Venice location and the local flavor and characters.

More later.

It has been brought to my attention that the first eight chapters of Road Dogs, available on the Entertainment Weekly website, (ew.com) have been CENSORED.  They took out all the usual swear words and more.  This is ridiculous and very discouraging.  It was bad enough when The New York Times did a number on Comfort to the Enemy, (Elmore’s serial novel for them in 2005) but this is worse.

I wondered about the censorship since I assume it’s only available online and not in the EW mag (or is it?). Were things changed in Comfort, too? I don’t remember hearing about it before. Does that mean the printed version is different from the NYT editions?

Based on what I read, it seems Foley is making a transition in his thinking, like Stickley did in Stick, or maybe even Chili Palmer in Get Shorty.

Then again, maybe not. If he’s going to cross Cundo Rey on the hopes of making it big he’s back to his old way of thinking.

I’ve got a bank robbing son on his second tour of a federal vacation in Beaumont, Texas, high security this time. Hard for some to break that cycle of crime. Some people, they’re hardwired different, can’t look far enough ahead to get out of their own way. Maybe they’re self-delusional, like singers you see on American Idol so tone-deaf or stupid they don’t realize just how wrong they are about their singing abilities.

People like Foley, it’s not that they are bad people. Just can’t think, call it stupid you want to.

And Foley and Navarro kind of remind me of Terry Dunn and Debbie Dewie from Pagan Babies the way they hook up so quickly. And we know how that relationship played out.

Can’t wait for the rest!
