Tell us what you really think….

THE IDIOT’S MIND
RAMBLINGS FROM AN IDIOT

26 JANUARY 2009

Movie: Killshot
I bought the ticket completely blind - expecting an action movie. Instead it was a thriller featuring a semi-retired hitman and what is effectively his last job. Long winded, largely boring and highly predictable. Mickey Rourke is an interesting choice as the American Indian hitman; and the scenery set in the winter of North USA/Canada is beautiful - but as a movie it is a waste of time.

As of this morning’s paper, the film is showing for a second week at the same 5 theatres.  Needless to say, with only 5 screens it did not make the week’s local top ten movies.  It will be interesting to see if word of mouth causes more this weekend than $2000 a screeen.  If it fails I want it to fail fast so I can buy the Blu-Ray.

IMDB and a few other sites are showing the DVD release to be May 26.

There is nothing official about a Killshot release date yet.  Like everything else that involves The Weinstein Company and IMDB, there is doubt.  However, since Amazon is listing it now, that adds more credibility to that date.  I am waiting for official confirmation from the producers.

I won’t post links or anything, as I’m not inclined to upset Gregg or Elmore…but if you look hard enough, you’ll find Killshot has been leaked on bit torrent sites. Just saying.

By the way, Netflix also has the DVD coming out on 5/26. Keeping my fingers crossed for an extended cut. Wishful thinking perhaps?

The official cover art is up on Tom Jane’s RAW STUDIOS website:

Saw Killshot yesterday. Not very good at all. A by-the-numbers thriller. No redeeming features at all really.
Killshot seems to be ranked among Elmore’s best novels, but its not one of my favourites. That said the book is ten times better than this very poor film.

I’ll have to wait until the DVD release. That’s the only way I’ll get to see it.

I don’t know about that. Jackie Brown, Out of Sight. Both as good as the books. Haven’t read Get Shorty.

Agreed 100%. Just a bad movie in many ways. I wanted to like this so bad, but it was a struggle to make it through the 90 minutes.
Diane Lane was good, but I hated the divorce angle. Mickey did a fine job, too. But there weren’t many other redeeming elements.
And the musical score was terrible.

Online.

Apparently, the DVD is a longer version (dunno whether that is a good thing mind you!).

From a recent Mickey Rourke interview…

What’s up with that movie “Killshot” [which co-stars Thomas Jane, Diane Lane and Rosario Dawson and has been sitting on the shelf awaiting release for two years]?
“I don’t know what’s going on with that. I think somehow they fucked up the ending. They hired an actor at the beginning who really sucked and they started cutting his part out. Then when they cut it out completely, the ending didn’t make any sense. So they ended up with their finger up their ass.”

Must be Johnny Knoxville who sucked.

I read that some early screenings of Killshot were 2 and a half hours long, with Johnnys part intact. Could he have really sucked that much that they hired him…then shot him, edited him and then realised he sucked! I don’t believe it! Surely, something is rotting in Denmark!
I’d rather see a long movie that made sense and did justice to Dutch’s fans than a patchy 90 minute one.

I liked Tarantinos take on Jackie Brown, but it would have been nice to get some more of the action from the novel - remember
Mr Pink fleeing from the cops after the jewel theft in Reservoir Dogs - that’s the excitement I was busting to see. So, so gritty, like a cinematic slap.QT could have delivered the action. Jackie Brown needed to use all the gears - dialogue and action.
I just wish Hollywood would make Elmores novels more gritty - Guy Ritchie should direct….maybe?
