First story in When the Women Come out to Dance doesn’t disappoint.  Slick LA doll’s house burns down in a Malibu hills fire.  Ex-Detroit cop turned insurance fraud investigator shows up and the sparks fly.  House full of Asian (you don’t say Oriental) decor provides motive for arson if the ‘runs like hell’ rabbit on fire doesn’t explain it.  Complete with a nod to coyotes, fine Malibu Gold and martninis, this one kicks off what’s sure to be a great collection of short stories from the Master.

Wait till you get to “When the Women Come out to Dance” and “Tenkiller.” Fantastic stories. Also, maybe because I’m a big fan of Raymond Carver (What We Talk About When We Talk About Love) I really like “Hanging Out At the Buena Vista.”

What’s going on with the movie version of “Sparks?” Every story in this collection would make a great short film. “Tenkiller” would even work with Bruce Willis (he owns the rights, doesn’t he?) if he was serious about it.

The short film may be ready for Sundance.

Not any more.

Word is, Fire in the Hole might be sold to TV.

Yeah, it was like reading from Tishomingo Blues all over again.  How Charlie gets his his start at the Tishomingo Hotel and Casino.  Even mentions the high diver and his routine.  The big redhead in her ‘house’ sassy as ever.  Mr. Leonard should bring these characters back to life in a new novel.

I’ve been bugging the producers for weeks to tell me when the trailer would be released.  Leave it to our Robb to scoop them…and me!

You’re quite right. That’s a very interesting and sensitive story. I have a deep impression about this story. Can you give me the links of the other stories? LOL

Sparks the short film looks…strange, how else to say it based on that clip? “Sparks” the story, on the other hand, is and always will be a delight.

“Tenkiller,” enough there for a complete film. Women is a great Leonard compilation indeed.
