Another request concerning my “secret” Elmore Leonard project.

Name in any order your Ten Favorite Elmore Leonard books.  Focus on what would best give a noviciate in the Elmore Leonard order, the big picture.

Thank you.

I’m not going for this fanboy crap. People on the Michael Connelly forum do this kind of thing (although it has to be said, they often mis-spell the books’ titles).

First, the question is incoherent. You’re asking for our favorite 10, and at the same time a list of stories that would give a novice an idea of EL’s range, or oeuvre or whatever.

Second, I don’t see Glitz figuring on anyone’s list at all. I feel I must be living on another planet. Either my judgment - or everyone else’s lists - ain’t worth shit; one or the other. It hurts me to contemplate this.

Pretty soon we’re going to have the really hard question: name ONE; & have some good arguments to back up your choice.

Although I’m a lifelong New Yorker, I’m obviously partial to the Florida stuff. I really hope Elmore brings us back to the Sunshine State sometime soon.

Great post.

SWAG is his best book.  We all know that.

Man, are you back at your brother-in-law’s?

Okay, how about this. There are a lot of Elmore Leonard books. Which ones would you recommend to someone to start with?

Recently a buddy of mine who’d never read any EL picked up Pagan Babies and read it. Was that a good starting point?
