Harry Dean Stanton

BE COOL, GET SHORTY, “Ten Killer” and probably a few more.

Well, he has a big “role” in A COYOTE’S IN THE HOUSE.

You’ll really enjoy his part in the book.

SPLIT IMAGES
It has been a fun read, again.

Walter Kouza, the dirtbag ex-Detroit cop, worked Sex Crimes during his 17 years with the DPD.

I’m sure he might have worked with . . .

Det. Jackie Michaels from MR. PARADISE.

Maureen Downey from CITY PRIMEVAL, SPLIT IMAGES, and FREAKY DEAKY.

Chris Mankowski from FREAKY DEAKY.

All worked Sex Crimes for the DPD. I’m sure there are more.

This is a touchstone of sorts: In “Right as Rain” by George Pelecanos, one of the main characters, Terry Quinn, mentions “Valdez is Coming” as his favorite western.

Deep Run, a fictional Detroit area Country Club appears in a couple different E.L. novels.
There is no such real life CC. Oakland Hills, the site of the Ryder Cup, has a couple different access roads named Deep Run Lane & Deep Run Road.
Since OHCC is hardly a stones throw away from E.L. digs in Bloomfield I would assume this was his model for Deep Run.
Of course I could be way wrong….

Gobo: If you want to see how diligent and creative Forum members are, look here. This idea was conceived by a member and is a wealth of interesting connections in Elmore’s work.

Gregg: okay, okay! I think you’re misunderstanding what I was trying to get at. i.e. Not that there is anything wrong with the people who are already here, but that there aren’t enough of them given how enormous EL is. How many times are the same member names repeated here? The last four posts are at monthly intervals…
I think we need an evolving main page on the site so that when people visit, and then re-visit, they can see that there is new information and be tempted to discuss it in the forum. i.e. put news updates on the main page (along with monthly msg from elmore, answers from elmore), not in the forum. What do you think, Gregg? From the perspective of a fan who visits, then visits again a month later and the main page looks the same?
I’m not criticising you! I’m confused as to why this thing isn’t more popular and am wondering why out loud….....
Maybe… I dunno, but maybe, it’s something to do with the age profile of Elmore fans? How many are young internet-phile people? I think of him as universally popular because I’ve been into him since I was a teenager, but… maybe I’m mistaken.

I picked up a MR. MAJESTYK paperback and ESCAPE FROM FIVE SHADOWS first edition paperback (1957) in a used bookstore last weekend.

Frank Renda is the name of the main bad guy in both books. I’ve read both books years ago and never caught it.

Also, I notice a lot of similarities between THE BIG BOUNCE and MR. MAJESTYK. The main characters get arrested for a fight. Majestyk, of course, has been mentioned as different character in THE BIG BOUNCE. Migrant workers are featured. A cop in MR. MAJESTYK has Ritchie as a last name and Ritchie Foods and a different Mr. Ritchie are main plot points in THE BIG BOUNCE.

Why not another one? I saw LETHAL WEAPON 2 a few weeks back and can’t help think that they stole the whole toilet bomb idea from FREAKY DEAKY.

They clearly ripped off Freaky Deaky and Ruthless People ripped off The Switch.

Gold Coast

. . .Maguire was uncertain. What’s the matter with your buddies Ordell and Louis? Why me? . . .

Maguire was thinking about this before the country club hit with the Pattersons. Ordell and Louis are from Rum Punch and The Switch. Two of Mr. Leonard’s best characters.
