A community center in Birmingham, Mich., a near-hop from the man’s Bloomfield Hills home, this month announced a three-day event that ends with a Nov. 13 dinner featuring “lifetime achievement” testimonials, a documentary, awards for 5-minute films, 5-page screenplay treatments and teen short stories, “and remarks from the honoree himself.”
Website says the creative competitions and overall fest “honor Elmore Leonard, a Birmingham legend who has contributed significantly to the arts in the state.” Translation: A fund-raiser for The Community House. (Sponsorship “investments"s available, $1,500 to $100,000.)
Media release calls it “a multifaceted event”—a phrase Elmore might write as dialogue, but never would say.
