You’re way off.  Geneva Beach was really Port Austin.  Top of the thumb.

You know, you can add and change locations on the map, too.

And I’m glad to hear you really do call it the thumb.

Thanks for the call. I meant to get on here and ask for some help with The Big Bounce actually. I must confess, it was a bitch to try and find the locations. Any mentions I could find seemed to point around the Midland area.
Sorted now.

I spent my high school years in Imlay City.  There used to be a billboard on Van Dyke as you drove into town that said “Imlay City - Gateway to the Thumb”.  A true Michigander is accustomed to holding his or her right palm and pointing to where they are or were located.

Gold Coast has a few Detroit locations mentioned. They’re on now, too.

Jade and the rest,

Great job on the map!  I love your blurbs.  This map is living proof that Michigan has been immortalized by Elmore Leonard.  It is a compulsion for some of you.  The non-fiction list and touchstones are my addictions.

I probably will not be able to make the tour this year.  I have a wife and kids that don’t see the value of seeing the parking lot where Robbie Daniels killed Curtis Moore.

We don’t want to become Trekkies, but an Elmore Leonard character night in Detroit would be stupid fun.  The Grammy winning liner notes for the Bob Dylan BIOGRAPHY boxset were written by Cameron Crowe (FAST TIMES…, SAY ANYTHING, JERRY MAGUIRE).  It mentions a costume party in which everyone came as a character from a Bob Dylan song.  This would be interesting for the psycho Elmore Leonard fan.

Maximum Bob or Alvin Guy—both were lawyers?

Clement is the wild man—we have a messy wild man of the forum.

I would wear a toe tag.

I see that the Forum members count is up to 928 now.
For any newer members that haven’t checked out Robb’s non-fiction link; it’s well worth it, (see the link in the above post). There are some absolute gems in there, that Robb’s been kind enough to share with us all. Fantastic stuff.

As for the Elmore Night, it’s an interesting idea. However, Robb, if you only wearing a toe tag, I think we’d have to promote the night in a…. different way! wink

well, if you put it like that… wink

I was wondering, has Detroit ever honoured Elmore Leonard, named a library after him or put up a statue, or is it too European to do that for a writer?

Never heard of anything myself, John. But, naming a library after Elmore would be great - and much deserved.
Back in England, where I grew up, if they put up a statue of a local artist, usually, it would be of one of the characters, made famous by the person.
