All this interest in Detroit has got me thinking. I’m in need of a bit of research, maybe the folks here can help.

If a guy walks into a recruitment office in Detroit these days and joins the Army, where does he do his basic training?

Army:  A recruit could go anywhere depending on the MOS (Military Occupational Specialty).  The infantry goes to Ft. Benning, Georgia.  Truck drivers go to Missouri, Camp Leonard Wood.  I’m a Ft. Benning infantryman graduate of 1987.

Marines:  East of the Mississippi usually go to Parris Island in South Carolina.  West of the Mississippi usually go to Camp Pendleton outside of San Diegeo
