Sorry to post this query here. I have tried e-mailing Gregg, but the e-mail constantly fails.

I want to start a thread and enter some links in the text. However, the links are very, very long. I have noticed, it was Robb I think, has posted many links, and appears to have changed the appearance of the link to read “read here” or Elmore’s x x x x x here” etc.

Can someone please let me know how I go about modifying links?

Apologies, I know it’s a lame question…

You can imbed a link by using the <a> key when writing a post.  It is locacted above the text box.

<b> <i> <u> quote code @  <a> Close Tags

Let’s do an example.

I am going to use the word HELP as this link:  http://www.elmoreleonard.com/index.php?/forums/viewthread/396/

First, I highlight HELP.  I then click on <a>.  I then paste the above link and click Ok twice.  There you go.

Remember to highlight the word you want to use as the link.

Anyone else having a hard time posting?  Takes three attempts before the message is put up.  The other two times brings up the blank ‘post a new reply’ window.  Hurray for copy and paste.

Direct any site problems to me.  Provide as much detail as possible.  I have no problem posting an entry here.

Probably some new setting on my machine, damn Windows updates.  Never had any trouble before.

Gregg,

Last night I wrote a long post for my ‘lost in translation’ thread. When I tried to submit it, it disappeared.
Today, I rewrote it. And the same thing happened again!

Any ideas?

I would need more information about the post.  Did it have a bunch of links?  What was it’s length?  Have you had any other problems posting?  Stuff like that.  I assume you were logged in.

Try posting it to a new thread if you still have a copy of the troubled post.

No links. Probably around 1000 words. Yup, was logged in.
No other problems posting… just those two.
No copy I’m afraid; I typed it straight in.
I’ll rewrite it again tomorrow in Word, then copy and paste it. That way if it happens again, I’ll have a copy.

Unless it happens again, it’s going in the cold case file.

Gregg, is there a time limit on posting entries? Recently I’ve had more posts disappear. The one thing in common these all had was I wrote them over a few minutes, coming back and forth. Then when I hit Submit, they disappear and just leave a blank entry page again.

It’s probably a defense against throttling.  I’ll look into it, but for now, slow down a little.

Same happens to me at work.  Posts go right in from home.  Some kind of settings irregularity at the office.  That or I.T. is messing with me.

Always copy before submitting.  PITA.
