No Crowes on that list.  Only major protagonists apparently.  Interesting though.

Touchstones are not solely about repetition
the recurrence of people, names, expressions
places
Southern Arizona
Michigan
Kentucky
Florida
Mississippi
New Orleans
California
more a sense of what is truly underlying the story
a continuity of truths
time place character

Valdez is Coming
Law at Randado?
Lt. J.R. Davis
? Dixie Davis ancestors?
David Davis? The Hunted
Norma Davis? Forty Lashes Less One

The characters Andre Patterson and Grover “Cochise” Patterson appeared in GOLD COAST.

I just posted the short piece Mr Leonard wrote for FORBES in 2000, “McHeard is the Word.”

The Pattersons are also in this story.

In Bandits we meet Betty Barr, the New York sportswear company rep who hires Jack Delaney to model clothes on location in New Orleans. Fifteen years later we meet Kelly Barr in Mr. Paradise, a Victoria’s Secret model and the love interest of Frank Delsa, homicide cop.

Elmore has a thing for Barrs and modeling.

Who knows, maybe soon he’ll have Roseanne Barr, in her youth modeling Moo Moos for Target. (You know their motto: “The bigger the cushion, the better the pushin’).

Although Elmore’s pattern with his Barr women—two syllable first names with double consonants—may mean Roseanne won’t make an appearance.

I don’t know.  Last time I checked Roseanne had two syllables and a double-consonant.
tongue wink

Great touchstone entry still, Lawless.

I have a very nice picture of Kelly Barr in my head. You guys keep talking about Roseanne, you’re going to ruin that.

whoa guys and gals
just in the sound is the thing
very important would say
the L A criminal attorney
yes there is a difference of sound
that is what we love about el’s sound
somewhere in there we live
within range of normal
and extraordinary
which brings us back to what I was saying with Messier for Elmore
The Touch is where the question of St Fransis and St Augustine
come to rest
with a story totally baffling
to a Get Shorty Elmore
St. Francis of Assisi
Alcohol Anon
The sound of laughter
silly giggling
true healing
I wonder after the Switch
is there another Frank?
Ask EL what his writing was like during that period

Who has been or mentioned in the most Elmore Leonard novels and/or short stories?  I think it is Virgil Webster with 7.

Virgil Webster (CUBA LIBRE, Tenkiller, Showdown and Checotah, Louly and Pretty Boy, THE HOT KID, Comfort To The Enemy, UP IN HONEY’S ROOM)

Carl Webster has 6 (He isn’t in CUBA LIBRE.)  Louly (Kitty) and some of the side characters from the Webster stories have been in quite a few.

I know a bunch of characters that have been in (or mentioned) three times in Elmore Leonard novels or stories.

Anyone know someone with four appearances?  A Crowe?  A Detroit detective?

How about a we pick up the Touchstones again with three or more appearances?  I promise I will only post once a week tops just to keep it open to everyone.  That sounds cocky, doesn’t it?
