Gregg, will you be reorganizing the forum into topic categories like the last one? Probably a stupid question. The answer, I’m guessing, is ‘of course’.
No, the answer is this is the reorganization for now. Technical problems aside, I don’t get enough traffic on the forum to warrant spreading out the precious few posts, so I combined them all into one forum. People can start threads and reply to old ones. I think that’s BBS 101. I will also figure out how to incorporate the old deactivated Discus board posts (thedutchforum.com) and the site comments into the forum. Every visitor comment is appeciated. Except for flamers, and we’ve had a few over the years.
Back when I couldn’t post you had forum topic lists categorized and it was looking like an actual message board. Looks like the new version is still in its infancy stage. All in good time, eh?
It may have looked like a robust board (like the old Dutch Forum) but there has never been serious traffic for an EL Board even when everything is or was working correctly. I have theories why, and it’s not just about Elmore. I have looked at many other author boards. I hope to get everything running smoothly soon and if there are five or ten people out there talking to each other and me, that would be cool. But it is difficult.
Let me just say that I applaud your efforts. I only just recently noticed the elmoreleonard.com invite in one of his books and decided to check it out. The blog seems to be doing just fine. Lots of updated material there. Now with the forum getting back on its feet, and all the EL projects in work, I’m confident you’re nearing a tipping point on generating a Dutch cyber-buzz.
The blog is doing fine. I update it as often as possible. I collect comments but am moving away from that because I’m being spammed to death and despite filters and such , the spammers always find new ways. It’s just me doing this whole site and things take time. I have not yet carried out a fraction of my plans. It would give me joy to see good conversations going. As far as a buzz, it’s out there. Most people however, by their nature, would rather read, then talk about reading. I’m hoping there’s a few who can get a conversation going.
If the ‘Old Timers’ don’t make it back, we’ll just have to grow back the stepping stones, er…touchstones topic ourselves.
I will be folding in the old Touchstones posts to the new board. It’s fun to do. I think when I get a chance, I’ll aggregate the Touchstone posts and make them a blog item.
Thanks for the support.
