Elmore would like to forget writing High Noon Part II: The Return of Will Kane just as the viewers wanted to forget they saw it. A TV movie through and through, featuring the unstellar duo of Pernell Roberts and Lee Majors. Part II opens as Will Kane (Lee Majors) returns to his hometown of Hadleyville with his wife Amy (Katherine Cannon) for the first time since his famous gunfight with Frank Miller and his gang. He now faces a new menace: the town is under the control of bounty-hunting marshal J.D. Ward (Pernell Roberts) and his two trigger-happy deputies, pursuing Ben Irons (David Carradine), a drifter wanted dead or alive for a crime he didn’t commit. Irons asks Kane to help him which sets up the second major gunfight within the town. High Noon Part II was a no win situation for Elmore; trying to write a successful sequel of a truly memorable movie, like High Noon, for television.
