I liked this part alot in the interview.
There’s no government in Somalia. Their fishing grounds had been spoiled and overrun. They can’t make a living, so they took up piracy. It looks so easy because none of the ships are armed.
As a somali i understand that perfectly. People in the west think they are horrific theifs,murderers. Its just people forced to a new way to survive.
Hehe it feels wierdl EL writing a subject so close to me home for me. Ironic he calls it Djibouti. It used to belong to us Somalians before the colony days.’
I wonder how close the story will get to feature the pirates.
