Elmore is getting the Raymond Chandler Career Award next week and I wonder if it strikes anybody as ironic.  Elmore says he was not influenced by Chandler’s writing, yet there is a connection between the two writers, first among the fans, but also on a deeper level.

Haven’t read any Chandler, but the old film noir thrillers based on his books evoke similar emotions and obvious comparisons to Elmore’s work.  Glad to see Elmore getting the recognition, even if Chandler wasn’t a big influence.

Can you shed light on the deeper connection?

By deeper, I mean they have common ground.  They ran parallel, working in Hollywood.  There will be more on this.
