Don’t know, but I’d guess…resting.

Gregg says Elmore’s starting a new book early next year.  Does that mean he’s already got an idea and will begin research soon?

Elmore is reading and relaxing.  Writing a book is gruelling.  Especially Up in Honey’s Room with all the history and such.  He is already thinking about his next novel though.

Have you been tasked with any research yet?  In another thread you implied you knew what Elmore might wanna write about next.  Something about not being far off when it was suggested he do a book on New Orleans and Katrina.

I was just greening Cosmo.  Elmore doesn’t do books about events or things, he starts with a character.  Tell them the rest, high diver.

Dang, TB references are popping up all over.

Looks like Gregg jumped the gun on High Diver explaining Elmore’s writing process.  It’s okay, he’s probably setting up his next dive in front of some sleazy riverside casino.  Good on ya, High Diver.  Spot any seedy characters up on that perch, though, you may as well just do the dive because there’s no point staying up there.

I don’t get you.  Elmore always begins with a character, everything else is secondary to that living, breathing. literary invention.

Didn’t mean to open up a can of worms here.
First of all I was joking with Gregg about Dutch writing a book set in New Orleans after Katrina featuring a high diver.
I worked with Elmore and Gregg for many months on Tishomingo Blues the book and then the movie.
The movie got pushed, so Gregg and I have a running joke.
It’s not everyday you get to sit and talk about your lively hood with 2 great people.
Gregg and Dutch are considered very good friends to my wife and I.
I did give Dutch and Gregg tons of info about high diving, and then Dutch did his thing and I have to tell you, Dutch was inside my head long before I knew it, he is and still is Amazing.

But as far as Dutch writing another book about a High Diver in New Orleans, is saying that Tishomingo Blues will be made with the orginal cast.
Ok, Gregg had to make it into a joke.

Gregg, do you know if there will be any public appearances for the new novel?

I’ve seen Elmore read twice in Toronto - once for Mr. Paradise and once for Tishomingo Blues. Both were fantastic. If you ever get a chance to hear him read, it’s really worthwhile.

Sheesh.  All I meant was that you posted Elmore’s writing process on the main page before you gave High Diver a chance to ‘tell the rest’.

No harm, no foul.

New York, for sure.  Maybe, the LA Festival of Books.  Undoubtedly Detroit,  Other locations, if any, may be added at the last minute.

Put New Orleans on that list, then Dutch can start researching for his next book LOL
