Has Elmore Leonard ever written anything set in New York City? I suspect the answer is no.

Chili Palmer comes from Brooklyn. Or maybe Queens.

In early 1996 I went to New York to research a second Chili Palmer novel, set in the fashion industry.  After returning and reporting my preliminary findings, Elmore abandoned the idea and decided to do Cuba Libre instead.  I was so happy.

Chili was from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Like De Niro’s character in Goodfella’s, he could never be a made guy—tainted blood, non-Italian blood on one side of his family.

The Momo heart attack scene was set in Brooklyn.

Shame really if none of his books are set there.  Several great crime writers has used New York well.    Donald Westlake being a perfect example.
