And while yer at it, say how you liked it compared to some of his other books you’ve read.

I’ll go first:  Mr. Paradise

Got a kick out of it.  Wasn’t a favorite, but it satisfied the itch.  I really enjoyed the 2nd to last EL book I read:  The Hot Kid.  But that’s a different topic, isn’t it.

I just recently finished Bandits again. That is a great read if you haven’t read it and it’s a great reread if you already read it.
Might have to go and read Tishomingo Blues again, that’s another great read.

For me it’s the brand new novel in manuscript.  In fact, I’m reading it now.  I’m going to reveal the title and talk about it soon.  I’m going to reveal it in this thread first to my pards that are helping me get this forum going again.

Valdez is Coming.
If all westerns were this good the genre never would have disappeared.

Elmore’s favorite western movie of his work.

(as Scrum)

I read Bandits a while back and loved it.  Haven’t re-read any of EL’s books yet, but I’d like to.  Tishomingo Blues is definitely a more recent favorite, as is The Hot Kid.  The new stuff seems just as edgy and funny as all the rest.  There are so many great books by EL, we could easily have a discussion on each one.  I’ve got a few more to read before I can say I’ve read them all.

Thinking way back, I really enjoyed Cuba Libre.  It was probably one of the first half dozen or so to reach my library.  And I had to check it again when Carl Webster’s dad was revealed to have been blown up in Cuba in the late 1800s.

Stick is probably my all time favorite, though it’s very difficult to choose just one.  I loved Valdez is Coming too.  It was the first EL western I read, probably 3 or 4 years ago now.  I just recently read 3 other EL westerns:  Gunsights, Hombre, and The Bounty Hunters.  All terrific!

Edit to original post:  The last EL book I read was acutally Maximum Bob, not Mr. Paradise.  I put off purchasing Maximum Bob because it seemed to receive tepid reviews on Amazon.com.  Then when I saw it at the library I couldn’t resist.  That was one heck of a story.  I loved it!!!  Reminded me of his more recent efforts:  Tishomingo Blues and The Hot Kid.  Right up there with Stick for me.

Can’t wait to see the new book.

Cheers

Probably got himself a threesome somewhere, in the middle of production on his new film and can be spotted at the mansion now and then with a distinctly satisfied, yet glassy look in his eyes.

You might be mixing Stick with Burt Reynolds.  The character was Elmore’s favorite until the movie came out.  I’d like to see him again.

Just finished The Big Bounce and am 3 chapters into Mr. Majestyk.  Decided to re-read the non-western novels in order.

just finished Stick (again 5th reread) its still has punch for me…eventhough i have seen the movie…i can read the book and not see the superimposed characters ... Burt does come to mind but doesn’t hold for the most part..

should stick resurface he might be a wealthy investment player…with his partner kyle…who knows…they may fall prey to some fast talkers trying to take them for a ride…and wind up paying alimony…so to speak

Just finished Mr. Paradise.  Great book.  Not my favorite of EL’s books (that would be Freaky Deaky), but definitely up there.

I think Stick is finished.  Maybe somebody else from the past will resurface.
