See thier write-up of Elmore here

Any thoughts about Elmore being at number 5? Agree or disagree?

Be careful what you say around here… wink

I think it will be interesting over time to see how these lists of writers change. You can already see Elmore Leonard showing up on more and more lists and I think in years to come his reputation will continue to grow.

If you had a list of the most influential writers from, say, 1979, Elmore Leonard likely wouldn`t be on it. In retrospect, though, his style of the invisible narrator and letting characters tell the story has really started to take over a lot of literature. His short scenes and perfect-pitch dialogue are now copied all over the place.

We comb the papers and magazines pretty thoroughly around here, especially like the Times story.  It always pays to search because you may find an existing thread.

The comment about shooting reminds me of the Finnish song that we used in Elmore Leonard’s Criminal Records.

Get a Gun, Elmore Leonard.

Crimes, sex crimes, robbery,
Get a gun, Elmore Leonard.
Shoot somebody,
But only in fiction.

Something like that.
