Dutch Treat (The Hunted, Swag and Mr. Majestyk) and Double Dutch Treat (The Moonshine War, Gold Coast and City Primeval are two well known American novel collections.  Lesser known is the British Penguin collection (Swag, Stick and Mr Majestyk) and another American edition, ( LaBrava, Cat chaser and Split Images )

What do you think would make a good omnibus or collection?

I look at this model: The Midnight Raymond Chander published by Houghton Mifflin Boston, 1971, and featured 4 long-short stories : Red Wind, Blackmailers Don’t Shoot, Trouble Is My Business and The Pencil and two novels ‘The Little Sister and The Long Goodbye.

Let’s hear your ideas for a Midnight Elmore Leonard collection along the same lines with a novel and story mix.

I like the mixing of some short stories in with the novels.

I read somwhere before in these forums that there were cops in Unknown Man #89 ?  I know its about Jack Ryan.

Im getting City Primeval just to see the different thing with the cop character in a EL books.

Are there other books where cops are one of the main characters or characters that appear often ??

A lot of Mr. Leonard’s books have police officers as main characters.  The highlighted ones have scenes inside the police station.  Three of Mr. Leonards main characters work for the US Marshals Service.

CITY PRIMEVAL - Raymond Cruz, Detroit Homicide Cop

SPLIT IMAGES - Bryan Hurd, Detroit Homicide Cop

GLITZ - Vincent Mora, Miami Cop

FREAKY DEAKY - Chris Mankowski, Detroit Bomb Squad to Sex Crimes

PRONTO - Raylan Givens, US Marshal

RIDING THE RAP - Raylan Givens, US Marshal

“Karen Makes Out” - Karen Sisco, US Marshal

OUT OF SIGHT - Karen Sisco, US Marshal

“Fire In The Hole” - Raylan Givens, US Marshal

MR. PARADISE - Frank Delsa, Homicide Cop

THE HOT KID - Carl Webster, US Marshal

“Comfort To The Enemy” - Carl Webster, US Marshal

UP IN HONEY’S ROOM - Carl Webster, US Marshal

It’s a small part, but Cal Brown is the cop in Swag - as far as I know he never showed up again in any other books.

But, wouldn’t it be great if he did show up?
Swag, considered a favourite by many people, should have some ‘spin-offs”.
And, whatever happened to Arlene?

Be good to see her, again.

Wow thats really many books with cop,us marshal main characters.

Which doesnt make sense since he is famous for writing about criminals, scams.

I did go the library to get City Primeval but some loser hadnt returned it since 2003 and the library online catalouge hasnt recorded giving me false hope….

I got The Hot Kid though.  Even if its not even top 10 of EL books i wanted to read next.  That happens when other book buys makes you broke raspberry
