Two new must sees, they both look great.  Haven’t read any Western Elmore, but that is what I will try next.

Both stories are fantastic and it is great that they have been nominated for Academy Awards.

When Elmore Leonard westerns get spotlighted, that is a very good day.  Oscars!  Gotta love it.

That book to the left of my post is an excellent collection, The Complete Western Short Stories of Elmore Leonard

I can’t say it enough.  Both stories are included in this fantastic collection.

I think I replied in the wrong place the first time.

I got to see 3:10 to Yuma it was great.  Looking forward to the Oscars, if they happen this year.

This movie was up there with some other great westerns, Unforgiven and Open Range.  We have watched them many times and never tire of them, also Silverado.

Thanks for the book info, I will find it.

And, did you notice, The Tonto Woman has been nominated for best short live action drama? Gregg posted links to the trailer and some clips on the main page. It does look really good.

0 - 3 at the Oscars.

Has an Elmore Leonard movie won an Oscar?

Scott Frank got nominated for OUT OF SIGHT, but did not win.

Out of Sight is Elmore Leonard…

His books are good, movies are good.  I thought 3:10 to Yuma was exceptional, liked the characters.  Did not see Tonto Woman yet, but plan to.

I like most of his characters, they are real, down to earth, maybe a little quirky and off beat.  The dialogue mostly is the best, cross between street and intellect.

My fascination lies in the fact that Elmore Leonard is from Michigan.  I always try to find mention of Detroit or the suburbs to see if I know the place described.  I like to be entertained and his books do just that, and his movies.  I did not like Get Shorty the first time through, but I love that movie now.  Love Out of Sight…

I also liked the characters in 52 Pickup which I believe may have been adapted from an Elmore Leonard book (sorry don’t know which one).  That may have been the first I remember getting me started on Elmore Leonard works.  I liked Tishmongo Blues (still waiting for the movie of that) I won that book from The Book Reporter.  I thought the characters in that book were very well developed, I enjoyed the setting and the plot, very different.  The Hot Kid was great.

the hot kid is great
look to son martin in moonshine wars
to get a sense of the old time stand up guy
in a day where freedom had a meaning
we may not be familiar with it now
yet veterans of foreign wars
are real heroes in the context of a social fabric
that is what is really out of sight,
the enjoyment of reading always
your love
