The countdown is on . . .

DJIBOUTI is out in October!

I assume we are going to get around 5 easy Touchstones and another 5 crazy hard Touchstones.

We have to see Father Terry Dunn or Chantelle from PAGAN BABIES.  What about someone from THE HUNTED?

Any chance of getting a Crowe to relocate to Africa?

Can’t wait!

No one has posted any DJIBOUTI touchstones!

Here are a few:

“All hell broke loose” a few times:  TEN RULES

A Cuba Libre is drunk:  CUBA LIBRE

Of course, “Be Cool” is said:  BE COOL and just about a dozen books

I can’t find anymore Djibouti touchstones than the ones Robb found.

But I did find these when I recently read Maximum Bob again.

-When Gary’s with Kathy and gets into a fight with Elvin, he tells him, “If I pull it, I shoot it.” Sound familiar?

-Kathy tells Michelle that Gary has ten years of National Geographic magazines. In Split Images, Bryan tells Angela that on his upcoming vacation, he’s going to “take the last twelve issues of National Geographic and read every word.”

Cops must like National Geographic.

Cops must like National Geographic.

Let’s here it for Maximum Bob. Cop books, yellow magazine covers and aligators, supernatural tendencies and underwater dancing mermaids.  What more can one expect?  Delta blues and a high diver? Civil War re-enactors?
Oh yeah!

Djibouti / La Brava touchstone:  In Djibouti’s final scene Xavier was putting on Aqua-Velva and Jama said “because he had cheap skin”.  In the final scene Joe La Brava was getting ready for dinner and put on Aqua-Velva and thought to himself Maurice said he used it because he had cheap skin.

Tishomingo Blues / Justified (TV show) touchstone:  In Tishomingo Blues, Robert was describing a member of his crew to Dennis as a guy that used to sell weed out of a church (The cool and powerful JC) until it got blowed up by a rocket gun…..

Be Cool: Sin Russell

Djibouti: James Russell

Also there’s a mention in Be Cool about filming taking place on a movie about Cuba in the late 1800s.

Another Russell:
Hombre: John Russell, who, particularly as played by Paul Newman in the 1967 movie, with a wonderful cast, may be the coolest of all of Elmore’s cool guys (“We all die. It’s just a question of when.”).

Paul Cable from “Last Stand of Sabre River” fought in the Confederacy for Forrest at Bryce’s Crossroads.  This was the same Cival War battle re-enacted in the book “Tishmingo Blues”.

There is a Bo Catlett in “Gunsights” and a Bo Catlett in “Get Shorty”.  The character in “Get Shorty” was very well played by Delroy Lindo.
