WE WANT A ROBERT WEBSTER STORY!

How about a collection of Webster short stories? We want a Robert Webster story. Mr. Elmore Leonard in the ‘60s would be great.

The following could work as a paperback:

1 - “Showdown at Checotah”
2 - “Louly and Pretty Boy”
3 - COMFORT TO THE ENEMY
4 - New Robert Webster Story
5 - “Tenkiller”

“Missing Story” - Robert Webster
Carl’s son (Ben’s dad), Robert, died in Vietnam and Robert’s wife, Cheryl, dies of drugs and alcohol in San Francisco.—from “Tenkiller”

Great idea.

Maybe Elmore will tell how Robert, the runt of the family, was a tunnel rat in Nam, along with his good buddy Art Krupa (or was it Carl Fontana?) from Mr. Paradise .

We might learn about daredevil Robert and understand where Ben got some of his attitudes and the confidence to ride bulls and do dangerous stunts, thinking all the time, shit, this is nothing campared to what my old man did.

And of course we could see Art (or was it Carl?) as the semi-normal guy he was before he developed a taste for killing dinks and made a full-time job of it after his parole from Jackson.

Like I said, a very good idea.

As both of you know, Comfort to the Enemy will be published someday, perhaps within the next two years.  It will contain the two stories cannabalized for The Hot Kid and, of course, the serial.  Inclusion of Tenkiller has also been discussed to fill out the volume.  Any new story, as you suggest, is not on any radar screen.  I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not to try to add to “The Webster Saga.”  Tenkiller uses a different fact set then the rest, which is where we derive the story items mentioned.

It is a worthy suggestion though and I will pass it on when the time is right..

Hey, I recognize this guy Gregg now that he’s using a new photo. He’s the guy who used to sell Silva Thins.

4 - New Robert Webster Story

It’ll never happen.  Not that I haven’t suggested it.

Trying to avoid spoilers.

1 - “Showdown at Checotah”
Title: McSweeney’s Mammoth Treasury of Thrilling Tales
Publisher: Vintage (March 25, 2003)

2 - “Louly and Pretty Boy”
Title: Dangerous Women
Publisher: New York, Mysterious Press, 2005

These two short stories came out before THE HOT KID.  They are sections from the book, basically.

Thats great that they are parts of the first novel, would be hard for me to get those only for two stories.
