Biography
Hollywood Finally Gets It
|
Elmore had never been completely satisfied with the sixteen or so films made from his work up to 1995. His books were successful because of their sound, their dialog and attitude. His characters didn’t react like movie characters. No one “got it” until Barry Sonnenfeld made Get Shorty in 1995 for Danny Devito’s Jersey Films. Two years later, Quentin Tarantino, an ardent admirer, made Jackie Brown from Rum Punch; and Steven Soderbergh teamed with Jersey again for Out of Sight. All three directors captured Elmore’s sound in their own unique style. The hoopla catapulted Elmore into the spotlight once again.
