In the late Seventies, Elmore hung out with Detroit Homicide cops for several months and profiled Squad Seven - Homicide for The Detroit News and ended the decade with his first police procedural, City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. He already had achieved cult literary status. This book would create even bigger ripples in New York.
